Installation of Fauna Crossings
Wooden poles are erected on each side and securely anchored to the ground with specialised duck-bill anchor footings and guy ropes running into nearby trees.
The fauna poles, typically between 16 and 25 metres tall support the rope ladder crossing combined with stainless-steel cables that can extend anywhere from 40 to 80 metres across several lanes of major highway.
Protection of Local Wildlife
Fauna crossings are installed to assist local wildlife safely traverse major roads and highways.
Ongoing monitoring shows that climbing animals like possums and squirrel gliders make good use of these crossings, minimising the dangers to them and drivers alike.
